This & That

.
Tom Degan has an excellent post this morning. If you don't "get" the reference to Jascha Heifetz and Jack Benny, ask. I will explain.
  • George W. Bush's twisted, grotesque smirk will be an eternal reminder of this generation's jaw-dropping naivete involving politics and affairs of state. Considering the gravitas of the two men he was able to defeat, his tenure as president is all-the-more embarrassing. It is akin to Jascha Heifetz losing to Jack Benny on American Idol.

Well, I had hoped not to mention the economic situation. However, this and then the AP comes out with their own investigative review which starts:
  • The Bush administration backed off proposed crackdowns on no-money-down, interest-only mortgages years before the economy collapsed, buckling to pressure from some of the same banks that have now failed. It ignored remarkably prescient warnings that foretold the financial meltdown.
You, know, it seems like chance or just plain old dumb luck would allow the Bushies to get something right. How can they always get it wrong, no matter what the situation, no matter who is going to be involved, where or when did they ever get it right? Name 1. I dare you. It just boggles the mind--at least, it boggles my mind.

And, now for something completely different.

From Nevada, Missouri, comes this:
